HS2 Consultation

The Government’s consultation closed on 29th July 2011: we will be updating this page later, with the results of the consultation when they are made public.

If you are at all concerned about the effects of HS2, Stop HS2 strongly urge you to make your views known and take part in the consultation.

The consultation questions appear to have been designed to encourage responses that support the HS2 proposals, so please think carefully about your answer to each question.

We suggest you include a letter with your response, saying that you think that HS2 should be scrapped.

If you think you may be affected by the later phases, you need to respond now, as there will not be another consultation for the route north of Birmingham.

To help understand the questions, we have compiled some simple guidance in the articles listed below.

What else can you do

Please encourage friends and family in other parts of the country to respond to the consultation.

The government has said it is a national consultation, and it will effect everyone, at the very least through their taxes. The DfT will be analysing where the Consultation responses are sent from, so the more people off-route who are oppose the scheme the better.

Many MPs have said they would be interested to see their constituents replies, so you may wish to send your MP a copy of your response. In addition, you could give a copy to your local Stop HS2 action group, or email a copy to us here at info@stophs2.org

Other sources of information

You should be able to get information at your local roadshow: different roadshows have different leaflets available, but they should include specific local leaflets.

We also suggest you contact your local action group: they may be aware of some specific local issues that are not made clear in the official documentation.

There is a lot of official information available on the Department for Transport’s website and on HS2 Ltd’s website.

At an absolute minimum we suggest you read the consultation summary document – available here – and the information we have on the Stop HS2 website.
