Invest in the north, not in HS2
The Chief Executive of Britain’s biggest private investor is not interested in investing in HS2 saying he would rather invest in infrastructure for the north rather than a commuter railway for London.
Jim O’Neill at the Economics Affairs Committee
This week, Jim O’Neill, from the City Growth Commission, has been appointed as Commercial Secretary of the Treasury and will be heavily involved in the “Northern Powerhouse”. But Jim is very skeptical of HS2, as this clip from earlier this year shows.
Professor Lord May of Oxford is so appalled by the behaviour of HS2 Ltd that he says he would trust few people involved with HS2 to mow his lawn. Then, giving evidence, respected Mancunian economist and chair of the Cities Growth Commission, Jim O’Neill, reveals that the leaders of northern cities are unwilling to listen to the strong evidence that shows it would be far preferable for northern cities to be better connected to each other rather than connected by HS2 to London.

More from UKIP & The Greens on HS2
Here are two very similar views from two very dissimilar parties, with the common thread of HS2.

UKIP:
Labour bin pro HS2 policy in key marginals
Two of the top Labour targets for the General Election, Broxtowe (Number 8) and North Warwickshire (Number 1) are seats heavily impacted by HS2. As such, it’s no surprise that their candidates in both of these seats have expressed reservations about HS2, bucking the party policy to support it. Here’s what Broxtowe candidate Nick Palmer had to say last week:
Meanwhile, in North Warwickshire, the Labour candidate Mike O’Brien who like Palmer was the MP there up until 2010 is again against the project. He doesn’t mention that in this clip, but he finds out that it’s parties who oppose HS2 that voters are looking to.
HS2 dominates election campaign in many constituencies
While this video is from earlier this year, it’s worth reminding politicians that HS2 is a big issue in constituencies along the line.
Stop HS2 response to the Lords report on HS2
The great thing about going on BCB Radio is that while interviews with them are few and far between, when they do ask Stop HS2 on, they always give us a fair bit of time to make our point. Here is what we had to say about the Lords Economic Affairs Committee Report on HS2.
Happy Easter!
