Obsidian Art, near Stoke Mandeville, are going to have a “No HS2 – A Green & Pleasant Land ?” exhibition, from Thursday 5th May to Sunday 5th June. They are asking artists for artwork for submission to the exhibition: these have to be submitted by 5th April.
Obsidian Art is a lovely gallery, which sells a wide range of paintings, jewelry, glassware and other arts. It’s got several rooms in the gallery, has a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, and plenty of parking.
The art gallery is next to the Bucks Goat Centre. With lots of outdoor play space, a range of animals (including ducks and donkeys) and a cafe, it’s a good trip out.
My children loved going here when they were younger, especially being able to feed the animals. (And when Grandma came too, I’d get a look round the art gallery, while she fed the goats and supervised the children.)
However HS2 will devastate both businesses. It’s going to be within 300m of the two buisnesses – on a viaduct.
As Obsidian Arts says on their website “Even if we survive the horrendous build proceess, the whole ambience of the gallery will be lost, the beautiful Chilterns countryside around us will be scarred forever, and the wildlife and endless people’s homes and businesses will be destroyed or harmed.”
