Sometimes politicians promise sunny uplands and lands of milk and honey. Sometimes they tell of tough times ahead, or behind, and what they will do to solve the problems.
Sometimes they stand outside a soggy No 10 Downing Street to announce an election in the rain – that’s what Rishi Sunak did on Wednesday.
It was what was in his speech that interested us. In a list of other achievements, Rishi said this
“We made a decision to invest more in local transport that you actually use rather than endlessly plough more money into HS2.”
Whatever else you think of his time in office, we think that was the right call.
