HS2 Select Committee site visits in Warwickshire & Oxfordshire, 7-8th October

For the next two days, the HS2 Select Committee will be visiting parts of the proposed HS2 route in Warwickshire and Oxfordhsire. Here is where they plan to be and when.

Day 1 – Tuesday, 7th October 2014

10.45am – Waste Lane, Berkswell stop. [10 mins]

 

11am – Start visit in Burton Green

Drive in via Hob Lane

Burton Green School[5 mins]

Continue over junction to Cromwell Lane

Drive over Cromwell Lane Bridge

Immediately over bridge, park at 402 Cromwell Lane (property of HS2 from 1.10.14) [20 mins]

Get back on bus and drive left along Hodgetts Lane to village hall car park

Back on bus and drive back to Red Lane and down towards Kenilworth.

Leaving Burton Green travel south to Crackley via Red Lane, Kenilworth Castle and High Street.

12pm – Lunch Stop

 

1pm – Kenilworth, Crackley and Stoneleigh

Turn off A429 onto Crackley Lane

Then back to A429 (Coventry Rd) Stop Birches Wood Farm / Crackley Wood [10 mins]

Stop on A429 (Coventry Rd) at Green Bridge – pull over just before the green bridge and walk up access to Greenway and onto the bridge (alternatively, park in Laneham Place and walk back 50m to the bridge). [15 mins]

Continue along A429 (Coventry Road) and through the Crackley Gap (where HS2 crosses).

Travel towards University of Warwick, along the A429 (Coventry Road). Turn right at Gibbet Hill onto Stoneleigh Road towards A46 and Stoneleigh.

Turn Right at roundabout before A46 into Dalehouse Lane. [15 min]

Turn left into Knowle Hill and then left into Crew Lane. South down Crew Lane continue another 500 metres past Kenilworth Golf Club clubhouse and stop in the Car park for the practice ground, which is on the left hand side, immediately before the bridge under the A46. [3 min]

Under Crew Lane A46 underpass

To junction of Crew Lane/B4115 turn left via Gate 3 Stoneleigh Park and route crossing. Continue to crossroads turn left (north).

200m to Dalehouse Roundabout, back south to Stoneleigh Crossroads to B4115. Gate 3 Stoneleigh Park crossing point parking area.

Take B4115 via Stoneleigh Village to Stoneleigh Park Main Entrance for parking. [30 min]

Return to main gate. Visit the Grade II* listed Stare Bridge adjoining the route

 

3pm – Cubbington

Past Abbey Park, turn right into A445 Leicester Lane and stop to view Furzen Hill Cottages.

Then continue along Leicester Lane to turn left at the first roundabout into Kenilworth Road. Then turn left at the mini-roundabout on to B4453 Rugby Road to head towards Weston Hall Farm.

View South Cubbington Wood

 

4pm – Offchurch

Travel down Welsh Road to Offchurch village.

Turn left onto Hunningham Road.

Stop at village hall car park on School Lane.

Proceed up hill, turn left and join the Leamington/Long Itchington Rd. Proceed along Long Itchington Road to The Fosse.

Turn right and proceed along The Fosse, turn left onto Welsh Road, pause at Moreton’s lay-by on The Fosse.

 

5pm – Bascote Heath / Southam

Travel along Welsh Road from Moretons farm for 0.7 of a mile towards Bascote Heath. On the bend, turn sharp left up the drive to Print Farm. Large concrete area for parking and turning.

Proceed along Welsh Road, turn right towards Bascote Heath. Pass the Fox and Hen pub and past the houses to the cemetery and stop at Bascote Wood in the Lay-by on the left, 100 yards after the war memorial.

Turn left at Harbury Junction onto A425 towards Southam. Park at Codemasters

Proceed along A425 and turn right at the roundabout onto B4451 (Kineton Road). Take the second right into the parking space in front of ALKO.

 

Day 2 – Wednesday, 8th October 2014

 

8:30am – Start visit in Ladbroke

Travel to Greenleaf Nursery on the Banbury Road (A423) in Southam

Stop at Greenleaf Plant Nursery

View Windmill Hill cutting, A423 road crossing

Proceed south towards Ladbroke.

View planned compound site, Windmill Lane and Radbourne Lane access points for construction traffic.

A423 take second (southerly) entrance to village. Stop at Bell pub car park.

Walk to village Hall, opposite Bell pub.

 

9.45am – Wormleighton and Priors Hardwick

Turn left towards Wormleighton (opposite The Wharf Inn) up the C35 road (1 mile) to Village Hall by a Grass Triangle and Stone Bus Shelter. Alight and view Wormleighton Village

Proceed to Bridleway SM116 by 4 x 4 vehicles as available.

Return to Coach and proceed to the T Junction of the C35 (Boddington/Priors Hardwick Roads)

Proceed to Hill Farm Priors Hardwick Village on Bus

 

11am – Depart Warwickshire travelling to Oxfordshire

 

11.40am – Mixbury & Newton Purcell Parish Councils

Stop in the vicinity of Tibbetts Farm, see where the line crosses Fulwell Lane.

Approach Mixbury from Fulwell, turn into Church Lane (having just crossed the line of HS2) and then turn immediately right into the yard at Tibbetts Farm to park

Enter the village via Church Lane and short stop at the Church.

Then drive through the village to the A421, turn left, and travel on to Warren Farm.

Return back to the A421 and head towards Finmere again, turning right onto the A4421 and down to Newton Purcell. [12.10am]

Stop at the junction between the A4421 and the lane to Barton Hartshorn and down that lane just north of the proposed line.

Stop at the turnoff to the dental practice/layby on the A421 south of the line where the proposed road diversion re-joins the existing route of the A421.

 

Advice for local residents:

Due to constraints on timing it has not been possible to arrange visits to every interested resident or group in the area. However, the Committee will be stopping to meet residents at various locations.

The indicative timings for these stops are below:

Day 1

  • Burton Green Village Hall – Approximately 11.30am
  • In the vicinity of Dalehouse Lane and Kenilworth Golf Course – Approximately 1.45pm
  • A445 Leicester Lane in the vicinity of Furzen Hill Cottages. – Approximately 3.00pm
  • Offchurch Village Hall – Approximately 4.15pm
  • ALKO business car park – Approximately 5.45pm

Day 2

  • Ladbroke Village Hall – Approximately 9am
  • Mixbury Village – Approximately 11.50am

Residents with concerns are welcome to join at these meeting points where it has not been possible to programme in the specific stops requested.

Please bear in mind the tour will do it’s best to keep to strict timings in order to cover all the sites listed in the itinerary above. However, we would ask for a degree of understanding from residents for any late running.
