The Oak Tree Lament
Four years ago, the was Christmas Number One, at least on the HMV chart!
It’s still a great track!
Chilterns band Dirty Mavis performing Oak Tree Lament in some of the areas threatened by the construction of HS2, the UK’s planned high-speed railway line between London and Birmingham. The whole premise of HS2 is based on flawed arguments and if it goes ahead is set to be the government’s White Elephant.
Included in the video is Chelmsley Wood, which some of you may know better as where the tower blocks are by Junction 4 of the M6, and Joes’ old car makes a cameo in the background of the streets of Ruislip. Cut from the video at that point was when the band didn’t mention to him, as cameraman, that he was walking backwards into a lamppost.
The Oak Tree Lament is still available to buy, and part of the profits are donated to Stop HS2.
