Press Release 21 January 2011
Stop HS2 is holding a National Convention
Saturday 19th February 2011
Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire
Stop HS2 Limited is the National Campaigning Organisation against High Speed Two (HS2).
The Government’s intends to start the National Public Consultation process on HS2 sometime in February. In view of this Stop Hs2 is organising an emergency convention for anyone who would like to know more and as focus for the national campaign.
Lizzy Williams Chairman of Stop HS2 said today “We are facing the greatest threat to our Country for many years. We are being asked to allocate £34 billion to a vanity project when people are losing jobs and services. Not enough people know about HS2 or what it is. We are holding this event to try and spread the word before it is too late. Billions of taxpayers money is at stake, which could be better used, not to mention the potential devastation of the natural environment and exacerbation of the North South divide if this goes ahead. HS2 will suck money and skilled workers to London in a high speed vortex sucking life from the regions. We are in an emergency situation, before we know it the consultation will be over and the Government will be wasting our money pushing on to the hybrid bill which will allow this to go ahead. “
Expert speakers including Christian Wolmar, Professor John Whitelegg and Mike Nattrass will be speaking about the core elements of HS2, the Economics, the Environment and Enabling Communities to have their say. Christian Wolmar will also be carrying out a book signing of his new book “Engines of War”.
Convention tickets cost £12 and can be ordered via our website www.stophs2.org. Alternatively please send us a cheque and your contact details to: STOPHS2 Ltd, 310 Cromwell Lane, Burton Green, Warwickshire, CV8 1PL. Discretionary tickets are available.
