Stop Press: HS2 bill rises to £42 billion

During his speech to the House of Commons for the High Speed Rail (Preparation) Bill, Patrick McLoughlin announced that HS2 Phase 1 and 2 is now expected to cost £42.6bn.

This is made up of £21.4bn for Phase 1 and £21.2bn for Phase 2, but does not include he cost of the trains.

  1. Just watched mp for cleethorpes saying his constituents aren’t affected by hs2!
    WHO DOES HE THINK IS PAYING FOR IT

    • Conservative MP Martin Vickers is entitled to his opinion but he could be wrong. If HS2 succeeds in drawing investment to business parks near the small number of proposed stations than it is likely to be largely at the expense of other areas in the North. Perhaps areas like Cleethorpes.

      The MP for Greater Grimsby Austin Mitchell gets this , so does David Davis in East Yorkshire.
