Phase 2 energy requirements – unknown

Given that there are concerns about the ongoing level of electricity capacity available, the Department for Transport is remarkably sanguine about the amount of electricity needed by HS2.  In a written answer, they admitted they had no idea about how much energy would be required by HS2 trains: however, faster speeds inevitably use more power than slower speeds.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what the energy requirement figures for the plans of HS2 (Phase 2) are.

Estimates of peak power demand for the Phase Two network will be available once the detailed work on the proposed route of Phase Two has been undertaken.
