27/9/10 – END OF THE LINE AS CAMPAIGNER TO COMPLETE WALK OF HS2 TODAY

END OF THE LINE AS CAMPAIGNER TO COMPLETE WALK OF HS2 TODAY

Lizzy Williams, the Stop HS2 Campaigner walking the entire route of HS2 will reach Euston Station today [Wednesday 29th September], after 23 days of walking. She will start the day at St Pauls School in Primrose Hill at 11am, and will get to Euston for 12-12.30.

Physically and emotionally exhausted Lizzy has been overwhelmed by the level of support from the communities affected along the way. However, Lizzy feels “more despondent than ever at the astounding lack of public awareness of the £30 billion Government proposal, the proposed route and timetable” in addition Lizzy expressed her desperate concern that people “simply believe the country does not have the money for this therefore it is not a real threat” and that “people do not appreciate the scale of devastation this will cause if it goes ahead; we are not talking about a conventional railway here it will be the largest transport corridor in the country and will destroy everything we value along the way; homes, jobs, business, communities, heritage, environment, habitats, peaceful enjoyment – everything.”.

Lizzy has found the lack of awareness about HS2 has grown the nearer to London she has travelled and she has been astonished there are still people have no idea their homes and property are at risk “it is clear from talking to people within Greater London that their councils have not appeared to make any effort to inform or engage the public despite supporting HS2, that is not democratic and very concerning”.

Despite her tiredness and distress Lizzy is determined to continue her campaign against HS2 by joining fellow supporters at public demonstrations in Twyford, Aylesbury and High Wycombe on Thursday 30th September where Philip Hammond is expected that day, In addition, Lizzy aims to walk from the proposed Curzon Street Station in Birmingham to the Conservative Party Conference on Monday 4th October between 12 and 1 pm in order to protest.

Lizzy will be walking from Primrose Hill to Euston between 11.00 and 12.00 today, Wednesday 29th September. Anyone who wishes to join her at any point is “extremely welcome”.
