25/9/10 – CAMPAIGNER WALKING HS2 ROUTE REACHES FINAL STRETCH

CAMPAIGNER WALKING HS2 ROUTE REACHES FINAL STRETCH

Lizzy Williams, the Stop HS2 Campaigner walking the entire route of HS2 will have London in sight as she ends Day 20 of her walk today, 25th September. Starting in Amersham, she hopes to finish today at either Chalfont St Giles or hopefully Chalfont St Peter. On Sunday she intends to reach Uxbridge, on Monday she hopes to finish in Acton, on Tuesday it will be Prmirose Hill and on Wednesday, Day 24 of her walk, she will reach the intended destination of HS2, Euston station.

Williams started walking at Tom Hay Wood, just north of Lichfield where the HS2 plans end on September 1st and has not been able to walk on five days due to either needing to rest due to exhaustion or attending HS2 related events.

 It will not be the end of course, as on 1st October, she will start all over again at Water Orton in Warwickshire with a shorter, four day walk of the branch line into Birmingham, which she will complete on 4th October to coincide with Conservative Party Conference.

 Williams said;

“It seems like a long time since I started walking I’m absolutely shattered, though to be honest the most tiring and demoralising thing I’ve done this week was meeting with Transport Secretary, Phillip Hammond. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the support I have seen from ordinary members of the public as I have walked the route, I have been absolutely shocked at what I have seen and intended the rape that the Government is prepared to commit on our country and I have been absolutely saddened by the desperation of the people I have met who will lose everything they have due to this ill-conceived plan which will help further bankrupt Britain.”
