TSC – next sessions on High Speed Rail

The Transport Select Committee have announced their next two oral evidence sessions for their inquiry into high speed rail (and HS2).

Next Tuesday (6th September) they will be examining oral evidence from organisations as diverse as the Cardiff Business Partnership, the CPRE and Flybe Ltd.

The following week Philip Hammond and senior staff from HS2 Ltd will give evidence.

The full timetable is on the Transport Select Committee website.

Also published today is an interesting article in the Economist. One of the main points are that in other countries, high speed rail has led to businesses relocating to the capital city, rather then to the regions. Another major point it makes is that places like Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and Rugby might get reduced services to London and hence lose out.

It’s well worth a read.
