Scrap high speed rail to cut deficit, voters urge George Osborne

After the Government asked the public to suggest ways of saving money, more than 500 people urged Ministers to cancel the £20 billion project to run trains at 225mph between the two cities, reports the Birmingham Post.

The Coalition has reopened the Spending Challenge website until the end of August to allow the public to vote on ideas.

The Birmingham Post article mentions that one respondant described high speed rail as “a waste of money that will be akin to forcing a herd of White Elephants into a cluster of Financial Black Holes.”

Please vote ‘5 stars’ on as many of the ideas suggesting scrapping High Speed Rail. To do this you have to log in at http://spendingchallenge.hm-treasury.gov.uk/ and then search for “HS2”.
